What is Scrum?

Scrum is a simple way of getting complex work done. Things that you might have been thinking about for years. Let's face a fact, our brain cells are limited. There is a limit to how much data we can store. Hence you need a virtual coach. A coach who will let you self manage, rather than manage yourself.

I cannot legally vouch for this but my guess is that Scrum was mainly invented while trying to solve a software project management problem. Interestingly enough, Toyota and certain martial arts principles may have played a huge role in it's invention. The funny thing about it is that it is just a body language and a way of thinking. There is nothing mystifying about it. It was derived based on the very principle that it is made of, simplicity. It is a simple way of solving complex problems. That's why it is so controversial. Off course relativity exists. Simple for one person might be complex for another, but then again that statement is so simple. Knowledge transfer can bridge that gap. Collaboration along with self organizing teams can do that for you. That is the essence of Scrum!

Take any situation in your life. You most probably might have had something that needed to be done. You just need to know "what" it is. The person who knows "what" needs to be done plays an important role in Scrum. Then you need a person or preferably a group of people who know "how" to best get "what" needs be done. This role of figuring out "how" is a completely a seperate role, even though the ones figuring out "how" and the others figuring out "what" are constantly collaborating with each other!

Then there are certain basic entities which scientifically exist that exist in the background, like time, resources etc. There usually is one role played by someone who is responsible for reminding the Team (who figures out "how") of these limited entities. There is limited time and resources, always! This person will also helps the Team to figure out how to best work within these limitations by constantly giving them feedback on how they are doing (the artifacts) within the limited universe of limited resources.
